August 15, 2016 –
On Thursday, August 4th, locals and visitors alike came together to enjoy lots of tasty watermelon. They came to support the Outer Banks Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Coalition at the 10th Annual Outer Banks Watermelon Festival at Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head. In total, the event raised $5,110 for the Coalition. OBBPSC helps facilitate the education and awareness of practical bicycle and pedestrian safety to drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and all those who live or visit the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Funds were raised through ticket sales and local vendors. Festival attendees used the tickets to participate in games, crafts, and other various watermelon competitions. Additional activities included the ice cream eating competition, watermelon seed spitting competition, and the highly anticipated watermelon eating competition.

“We truly appreciate everyone who came out to enjoy this summertime tradition, while also supporting this extremely important Outer Banks organization,” said Kitty Hawk Kites Founder and President, John Harris. “The safety of our locals and visitors is critical to this community. And we’re proud to be able to help raise awareness and funds for this very worthwhile cause.”
