Cheers to Kegory the Flying Keg

There are a lot of hurdles that pop-up when you are putting together an event for the first time – let alone an event that's as quirky as the OBX Brewtäg.

I mean, has anyone EVER created an event that challenges teams to build homemade contraptions that are designed to carry a 1/6th keg the furthest? The answer is simply no, based on our research, this is the first time an event of this kind has ever been organized.

And what better place to have an event with than right here on North Carolina's ?

After all, a little over 100 years ago, the were credited for successfully flying the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight just a few miles north of The in Nags Head, NC, the site of the inaugural Brewtäg.

kegory-the-flying-keg-outer-banksWhen we first started promoting this soon-to-be annual event, there were a lot of questions, and we found it to be challenging to explain the premise of the OBX Brewtäg to people within a few seconds. And in today's world, if you can't explain something quickly, people lose interest.

There are so many different things that are put in-front of the average American each day that if someone stopped and listened to the full explanation of every product, service, event, etc. during a given day, that person would be unable to get much of anything done.

So after several weeks of giving somewhat of an “elevator pitch” in-person and on social media, we hatched the idea of creating a mascot for the event in an effort to both draw additional attention to this one-of-a-kind , and also make it easier to quickly understand the premise of the OBX Brewtäg.

After a quick brainstorming session within the Kites marketing department (and a lot of loser first names), Kegory the Flying Keg was born.

On the eve of the first ever OBX Brewtäg, we'd like to offer a toast to Kegory, our fearless flying keg mascot. He has captivated us all for a little over a month now, and has helped us explain the premise of this first-ever event in a quick and hilarious manner.

So cheers to Kegory, all sponsors of this year's event, and the . Here's to one unforgettable celebration of flight and this Saturday, October 24th from 12 PM to 6 PM. (And many more to come!)
