It’s been a long road, but we’ve finally done it. The new Kitty Hawk Kites Watersports Center is open!
Back in January, we tore down our old Whalebone location in south Nags Head to start rebuilding an updated store and watersports launch site. That seems like decades ago after everything that happened this year. Our construction was delayed for weather, COVID, and permits. But we put our heads down and continued working through these obstacles.
The History of Whalebone Watersports
The original Whalebone Watersports has long been a staple on the Outer Banks. The convenient location on the Nags Head-Manteo causeway made it perfect for launching kayaks and standup paddleboards as well as hosting kiteboarding lessons, dolphin tours, jet ski rentals, and more.
But the harsh Outer Banks weather was starting to show on the building. So an update and upgrade was needed.
The New Watersports Center
The new watersports center officially opened on October 3rd 2020!
Our favorite addition to this location is the brand new dock. Now with this amazing new space, we can host many more kayaks, jet skis, pontoon boats, standup paddleboards, and more. The Nags Head Dolphin Watch will also launch one of their boats from this location next season.
Now this store has more square footage for you to shop. Stocked with the best sportswear, watersports equipment, apparel, toys, kayaks, and more. Find everything you need for a great vacation in the Outer Banks. And pick up souvenirs and gifts to share with friends and family and remember your visit for years to come.
Come visit us at the new Kitty Hawk Kites Watersports Center on your next visit to the Outer Banks. Conveniently located on the Nags Head-Manteo Causeway. Get directions. We look forward to seeing you there!
