For most of us on the central beaches, life has pretty well gotten back to normal. The power’s back on. Stores are open. The roads are clear. And one by one, limbs and debris are disappearing from yards. But for many on the sound side and on Hatteras Island, “normal” is still a long way off.
Now, as the drama of Irene subsides and other world events steal center stage, there’s a tendency to forget that lives ripped apart by the storm don’t get put back together in a week or two. While meeting immediate needs is great. But the clean-up, recovery, and financial strain will consume our friends’ and neighbors’ lives for a good while to come. And we’ll be with them every step of the way.
How to Help
However, Kitty Hawk Kites needs your help to help our friends and neighbors. Here’s how:
- First, add a donation to your next transaction at Kitty Hawk Kites, Kitty Hawk Surf Co., or Life is good, and we’ll match it.
- While you’re out stocking up for your Outer Banks getaway, pick up a few supplies for those who are still digging out. For a list of the most in-demand items, click here. Our Nags Head, Whalebone, Manteo, Duck, and Corolla Kitty Hawk Kites, Kitty Hawk Surf Co., and Life is Good stores will serve as Hurricane relief donations centers.
- Not going to be on the Outer Banks in the coming weeks? No problem. Simply browse on over to the Outer Banks Community Foundation and make a credit card donation.
All monetary and supply donations will be given to the Interfaith Community Outreach. They are coordinating the relief effort for local governments, churches, and businesses. Most importantly, ALL DONATIONS stay right here on the Outer Banks.
Thanks for helping us help our friends and neighbors as they recover, rebuild, and restore the places we all love. Answering the call of those in need is Pure Outer Banks.
