Here to Help for the Long Haul

For most of us on the central beaches, life has pretty well gotten back to normal. The power's back on. Stores are open. The roads are clear. And one by one, limbs and debris are disappearing from yards. But for many on the sound side and on Hatteras Island, “normal” is still a long way off.

Now, as the drama of Irene subsides and other world events steal center stage, there's a tendency to forget that lives ripped apart by the storm don't get put back together in a week or two. While meeting immediate needs is great. But the clean-up, recovery, and financial strain will consume our friends' and neighbors' lives for a good while to come. And we'll be with them every step of the way.

How to Help

3. Not going to be on the outer banks in the coming weeks? No problem. Simply browse on over to the Outer Banks Community Foundation and make a credit card donation.
