World Championships of Surf Kayaking

Could there be a more natural place to hold the World Championships of Surf Kayaking¬†(WCSK) than the Outer Banks? We’re pretty sure that the 200+ elite competitors who are converging on the Outer Banks for this biennial event will leave asking themselves that same question.

If you’re in town and interested in seeing surf kayaking on the Outer Banks at its finest, just drop by Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head. The event’s judging stands (tastefully clad in Kitty Hawk Kites and Kitty Hawk Surf Co.¬†regalia, no less) are set up just South of the pier entrance.

And while we’re on the subject of kayaking, you may find yourself itching to get a boat of your own. Pop on over to Kitty Hawk Surf Co. and see their huge selection of Hobie, Wilderness Systems, Necky, and Ocean Kayak boats. There’s also a used kayak sale going on right now at our Nags Head location in the Jockey’s Ridge Crossing center, just across from Jockey’s Ridge State Park.

So, good luck to the kayaker competitors. And welcome to the Outer Banks — the perfect surf kayak destination.

Back in business…

Its’ been a rough couple of days here on the Outer Banks, but the storm has passed, the power’s back on for most on the Northern beaches, and we’re ready to do what the Outer Banks does best: welcome and entertain our guests.

Our stores in Nags Head, Duck, and Corolla are up and running! Click here for more information and locations and contact info.

Unfortunately, our stores along the Southern beaches are still unreachable due to breaches in Hwy. 12. Our thoughts and prayers are with our friends and colleagues on Hatteras Island.

We are currently accepting reservations for: hang gliding, kiteboarding, air tours, surf lessons, jet skis, kayak tours, dolphin watch tours, parasailing, wakeboarding, and sailing cruises. For times and reservations, give us a call: 877.FLY.THIS.

We appreciate the many well wishes and good thoughts that have been sent our way. Keep the good thoughts coming for our friends on the Southern Beaches.

Great Sounds on the Sound: Hatteras Island Surf Film Festival

Looking for a great family event on the Outer Banks this weekend? Well, look no further. The Hatteras Island Surf Film Festival kicks off this Saturday, August 20th 2011, at 4:00 at Waves Village Resort in Rodanthe (milepost 40). We’ve got great sounds ON THE sound, including: The Jesse Hines Band, The Delimiters, and The Rubber Pants Band.

At 8:30, there’ll be special screenings of some great surf films shown on the giant Kitty Hawk Kites inflatable big screen. As an added bonus, there’ll also be a special slideshow by photographer Mickey McCarthy.

Best of all, IT’S COMPLETELY FREE and FAMILY-FRIENDLY. Make plans to enjoy a pre- or post-show dinner at Good Winds Seafood and Wine Bar.

Spread the word, and we’ll see you there!
