August 30th was National Beach Day! A time to celebrate the natural wonders of our coastlines and the tranquil beauty of sandy shores. Stretching for over 100 miles along the coast of North Carolina, the OBX is home to some of the most stunning beaches on the East Coast. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the best beaches the OBX has to offer, perfect for both relaxation and adventure.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore is a haven for nature enthusiasts and beachgoers alike. Its pristine shores are famous for their unspoiled beauty and abundant wildlife that you can catch on one of our paddling eco-tours. Whether you’re strolling along the sandy expanse, birdwatching, kiteboarding with our PASA certified instructors in this natural wind paradise or catching waves, Cape Hatteras offers it all. Plus, the historic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is a must-see attraction nearby!  

Corolla, located in the northernmost region of the OBX, is known for its picturesque dunes and wild horses that roam freely. Explore the 4×4 accessible areas for a unique adventure or simply relax with your toes in the sand.  

Nags Head Beach is a classic OBX destination, offering a blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Don’t miss the iconic Jockey’s Ridge State Park and our hang-gliding school, just across the road on the sound side!  

Accessible only by ferry, Ocracoke Island boasts some of the most pristine and secluded beaches in the OBX. The untouched beauty of Ocracoke’s shores makes it a paradise for those who crave solitude and serenity. Explore the charming village and its shops, including ours, while you’re there.  

Kill Devil Hills offers a blend of family-friendly fun and adventure. It’s a fantastic spot for bodyboarding and surfing, thanks to its consistent waves. History buffs will appreciate the nearby Wright Brothers National Memorial, where the first powered flight took place. In July, Kitty Hawk Kites hosts a world-class kite festival on the memorials grounds every year!  

Duck Beach is known for its upscale atmosphere, with waterfront homes and a charming village center. The pristine beaches are ideal for long walks and relaxation. Duck also has a sound side boardwalk perfect for kayaking, parasailing, and birdwatching.  

For a truly untouched and natural beach experience, visit Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. This protected area offers a unique opportunity to observe wildlife, including migratory birds. It’s a peaceful and serene escape from the crowds about 20 mins out from our store in Waves Village.
